memory

A great game to review vocabulary for a unit or a specific topic. The more “meetings” students have with vocabulary words, the better they remember.

Objective: students practice the ability to ask for and give information using the past tenses and practicing vocabulary.

Materials: Before class, prepare a tray with 20 items that will suit the level of your students. (Or you can write 20 words on the board) You will need to cover the tray with a cloth or the board with a big piece of paper.

Procedure

Tell the students that they will have one minute to look at the objects on the tray or words on the board. They will then be asked to write down as many things as they can remember.

Move around the classroom, giving small groups of students one minute to observe the objects on the tray. Cover the tray as you move to the next group. If you are using the board, have the class look at it for one minute.

After all the students have had a chance to see the objects, cover the tray/board and instruct them to write down as many items as they can remember. Ask for volunteers to read their lists. The winner is the student who has the most correct items written down.
